Biography

I am a law professor and owner of Hoopla Traders, a global boutique on Barracks Row in Washington, D.C. It may sound schizophrenic, but I bring my love for art, culture and spirit to everything that I do.

When teaching, I try to help my students find their "higher calling" in the law. I teach in a community development law clinic that helps low-income clients to achieve their dreams by opening their own small business or non-profit organization.

In my own business at Hoopla Traders, I try to connect artisans from around the world with clients who appreciate their art and culture. Hoopla does its best to purchase directly from artisans, support fair trade and ecologically sustainable business practices. Hoopla is dedicated to the "triple bottom line" --balancing economic, environmental and social outcomes.

I believe in the concept of karma -- the effects of our actions actively create present and future experiences. We are responsible not only for our own lives, but also for the well-being of our planet and all living creatures. This belief shapes everything that I do and connects my work as teacher, lawyer and socially responsible entrepreneur.
